Listeria concerns lead to recalls in Canada

OTTAWA, Ontario – Recalls of roast beef have consumers in Canada on high-alert. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced recalls of two popular lunchmeat brands.

HQ Fine Foods recalled Gloria's Brand and Lunch Box Roast beef sandwich products on concerns the products may be contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers should look for “Best Before” dates of July 10 on Gloria's brand roast beef sandwiches, and July 13 and July 16 on Lunch Box Roast Beef and Cheddar Cheese Sub with Creamy Coleslaw products.

Also recalling roast beef is FG Deli Group Ltd. The company triggered a recall of its Grimm's brand Home Style Roast Beef over public health concerns related to possible Listeria contamination. CFIA said the affected products may have been sold at deli counters without a label. The product was distributed to Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Yukon and other provinces and territories.

CFIA said no illnesses have been reported in connection with the affected products, however additional products may be included in the recall as CFIA continues its food safety investigation.
